Tent Family

Hear from a past Participant

Two years ago it got down to 16 degrees during One Night. Me and the guys on my team were not going to be deterred from sleeping outside. The friends & family who sponsored us expected us to be uncomfortable that night. About 2 am, “uncomfortable” was an understatement. It was only sheer pride that kept me in the cardboard box that night. I knew there were most likely some folks sleeping under the Wells street bridge a block away who didn’t have all the things I had to bare the cold. My resolve for being a small part of the Rescue Mission’s purpose was solidified that night. I appreciate One Night because it’s an uncomfortable experiential opportunity that gives me a very small taste into the life of someone living on the street; the harshness of the cold ground, the limited resources, and the vulnerability of being in a cardboard box downtown out in the elements in the middle of the night. I would love to see more families, young adults, and men’s church groups participate in this. It’s a creative, relevant activity put on by the Rescue Mission that truly ministers to those Jesus refers to as “the least of these.” - Andy Binkley past participant

How we help

You give up a night,
they get a night

Every dollar you raise as a participant in One Night 2022 goes directly to The Rescue Mission, a non-profit that provides housing, meals, recovery programs and supportive services to men, women and children facing a homeless crisis in Allen County and surrounding counties. By joining in this evening you’re paving the way for someone in need to sleep in a warm, safe bed at The Rescue Mission.

Build a fire

Take time and build a fire as a group or family. Try and build it without a lighter or source of fire. Consider how important having this fire might be each night and how you would feel without the warmth and light it provides.
